Important Information about the QCF Transition
All ILM VRQs have transferred from the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
This will bring a range of additional benefits and opportunities for ILM Centres, candidates and employers, and will not entail any changes to the
qualifications themselves.
The new framework will require a slight change to the way ILM centres capture and communicate learner information. This dedicated section of the website provides an overview of the minor changes needed to your day-to-day administration to ensure you and your customers enjoy the many advantages of the new credit framework right from the outset.
Overview of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) has been developed by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as a new and improved way of recognising skills and qualifications. It does this by:
- Rewarding successful candidates for small bitesized units of learning with nationally recognised credit across England, Northern Ireland and Wales
- Recording individual learner achievement through a new web-based database
ILM firmly believes the QCF offers a major step forward for vocational education, which is why in September 2007 we relaunched our portfolio of VRQs in unit-based format – in preparation for the QCF. This has enabled us to fast-track our VRQs onto the new framework, ensuring ILM Centres are among the first to offer learners the many benefits of unit and credit based learning.
Funding
From 1 May 2008 all ILM qualifications that were fundable on the NQF will remain fundable on the QCF. Over the next two years, funding for qualifications from all awarding bodies will progressively switch onto the QCF. By September 2010 all awarding bodies’ qualifications will have migrated onto the QCF and only qualifications on the QCF will qualify for LSC funding.
