Partner Universities

A Higher Education Institution can support and develop its staff and students by becoming an ILM partner university. This scheme enables staff to become members of ILM through corporate membership and students to join as graduate members.

Benefits for university students

Students on a management-related course can access ILM studying membership services – at no cost to the university or the student – to help develop their management and leadership skills and knowledge, and smooth the transition from student life to working life. On completion of their studies, they can progress to become graduate members of ILM, bringing a range of additional benefits:

  • Use of the distinctive Graduate Member grade with post nominal letters GMInstLM for students who complete management-related courses at graduate and postgraduate level from partner universities
  • A fast-track route for Graduate Members to become an ILM Member (MInstLM) once they have completed 3 years of management experience rather than the usual 5 years. (Management experience gained prior to the course start date will also count)
  • Graduate Members who have at least 5 years of senior management experience are eligible for Fellowship of the Institute (FInstLM), a real advantage for mature students who have substantial senior management experience and a postgraduate level qualification from a partner university

Benefits for university staff

Partner universities automatically gain corporate membership free of charge, with university staff given the opportunity to apply for ILM membership at the discounted corporate rate.

Dual certification

ILM provides partner universities with the opportunity to offer dual certification to their students, so they can study for and achieve an ILM qualification at the same time as they work through their university course.

ILM is the market leader for vocational qualifications in leadership and management, with 90,000 candidate registrations last year, and is widely recognised by employers as delivering the key practical skills that benefit their business. Dual certification enhances the employment prospects of partner university graduates, by signifying to employers that they posess practical leadership and management skills that are immediately relevant to the workplace.
