ILM Fellows congregated at the Tower of London on 17 April 2008 to celebrate the ILM Reward and Recognition event of the year

Attended by over 190 Companions, Fellows and winners of the ILM Awards for Excellence, the event was held to formally recognise the commitment to leadership and management achieved by the most prestigious grades of ILM membership.

Beefeater and ILM Fellow Colin Smith led a tour of the Tower describing the gory history for which the Tower is famed. Fellows had the opportunity both to be photographed in their official ILM robes and admired by passing tourists. After the tour ILM’s chairman Ralph Bauer greeted each Fellow and Companion as they were announced into the grand hall for a three-course lunch.

After dinner speaker, Lady Marie Stubbs, recounted her leadership challenges as head of St George’s school. Persuaded out of early retirement, she led the task force that rescued the school following the murder of headmaster Phillip Lawrence. In little over a year, Lady Marie had transformed St George’s from a failing institution that Oftsed had placed on its ‘special measures’ list to a well run effective school which Oftsed praised as a national example of good practice.

The winners of the ILM Awards for Excellence 2008 were also announced and presented with their prizes. The awards recognise individuals, employers, tutors and learners who have achieved outstanding results through innovative approaches to leadership and management development. Winners included a Lieutenant Commander, an environmental officer and TNT.

The day concluded with the AGM where all the proposed resolutions were passed.
