Stress Management Society director Neil Shah said that stress management and wellbeing are clearly linked to profitability in businesses.
"Most people when they engage in stress management activities, they're doing it because they want a happier and healthier workforce. That is a good byproduct, but ultimately the financial gains should be enough motivating factor for any organisation to be addressing issues in this area," he added.
His comments follow the publication of a recent study by a team of Swedish researchers in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
The study found that men who do not express their frustrations with work are twice as likely to have a heart attack.
Stress affects one in five of the working population and is now the single biggest cause of sickness absence in the UK, costing UK employers £1.24 billion a year, according to the Stress Management Society.
