ILM announces winners of the ILM Awards for Excellence 2008

The Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) is pleased to announce the winners of the ILM Awards for Excellence 2008. These awards officially recognise the leading employers, training providers and learners who have achieved excellence in leadership and management development. The awards categories were: Tutor of the year, Achiever of the year, Employer of the year and Learner of the year.

ILM Achiever of the Year
ILM Achiever of the Year 2008 is Lieutenant Commander John Scivier, Royal Navy
As commanding officer of HMS Victory, John has set in motion an impressive programme of development that has not only significantly increased the visitor experience to this major tourist attraction, but has also increased community involvement. He has shown enormous determination to succeed and demonstrated real creativity in his approach to meeting each new challenge.

ILM Learner of the Year
ILM Learner of the Year 2008 is Sally Sandford, Environmental Officer, St. Austell Brewery, nominated by Colin Milroy, Cornwall College Business.
Sally achieved an ILM Level 4 NVQ in Environmental Management, demonstrating continued personal commitment to the qualification and producing exemplary work. She has shown a highly professional approach and used her new knowledge and skills to make clear and efficient environmental improvements to the company.

ILM Employer of the Year
ILM Employer of the Year 2008 is TNT UK Ltd (collected by Andrew McDonald and Claire Guest TNT UK)
TNT UK Ltd delivered a high scoring and well planned management development programme which has demonstrated significant cost benefits for the company. Training was designed for each management tier and trainers were selected with skills and experience in performance management which helped to drive positive culture change.

ILM Tutor of the Year
ILM Tutor of the Year 2008 is Suzanne Seviour, Spectrum.
Suzanne has an extensive background in supporting people with learning disabilities and a contagious passion for staff training. As well as having completed an ILM level 4 Award in Management herself, she works tirelessly to ensure that all her candidates are fully supported and has mastered the art of delivering underpinning knowledge which will have real life use to the learners.

The ILM Awards for Excellence 2008 were presented as part of the inaugural ‘Reward and Recognition’ ILM Fellows and Companions event at the Tower of London on 17 April. More than 100 ILM Companions, Fellows and guests enjoyed a celebration lunch followed by the Awards ceremony. The event concluded with a speech from Lady Marie Stubbs about the transformational leadership journey of rescuing St George’s School following the tragic murder of headmaster Phillip Lawrence.
