Research from AQR and the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) shows that people would rather work for a hard taskmaster who is successful than a lenient boss who fails to deliver the goods. While team working and people focus were identified as important leadership qualities, researchers found it was the desire and 'determination to deliver' that set effective leaders apart.

Poor management is blocking the UK's path to productivity, according to a new report commissioned by City & Guilds and the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM). The 'Tomorrow's Leaders' study, undertaken by Henley Management College, shows that managers are struggling to reinvent their working patterns to get the best from a growing army of remote workers, with visibility and presenteeism still used to judge performance.

ILM chief executive Kim Parish has announced that she will be leaving the organisation this autumn in order to pursue new challenges in Australia. Under Kim's leadership ILM has grown in both stature and market share. Candidate registration numbers for 2005/2006 were over 80,000 - a 51% share of all funded management and leadership qualifications in England - confirming ILM's place as Europe's top provider of leadership and management qualifications.

The Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM). This has enabled the creation of new joint branded Facilities Management units for QCA Level 2 & 3 vocational qualifications.
