As the British public reached fever pitch with over 7 million people tuning into the final of the Great British Bake Off last week, three businesses brought baking into the boardroom as they battled it out to take the title of ‘2013 Great Business Bake Off Champions’
Energy giant N Power, national charity ‘Meningitis Now’ and fruit distributor ‘Blue Skies’, all reached the final of the UK’s business baking competition with Blue Skies, taking top spot with some inspired fruity bakes.
The Great Business Bake Off was designed to bring colleagues together to share their love of baking whilst inspiring colleagues with improved teamwork, communication and morale. Three teams certainly endorsed the positive benefits of baking and the business bake off:
Guy Esnouf, head of Communications for N Power Commented: “The bake off has been very helpful from a team development point of view. Having just joined the team, it has been a great exercise to work with new team members. The team bake off has taken our relationship to a completely different level and I can see real spin off benefits in how we work together as we go back to the office.”
The winning team from Blue Skies excelled with some superb bakes and the team went home with a range of prizes worth over £5000, including 4 Kenwood K-Mix Stand mixers, a team building day with Seasoned Cookery school, bakeware and goodies from Pyrex and a years supply of chocolate brownies from the famous Gower Cottage Brownie company.
This competition stems from the popularity of team building cookery days within Seasoned Cookery School; Brendan Lynch, BBC 2012 Great British Bake Off finalist comments: “Baking is an excellent team building activity, with all team members being able to partake and share in success. Teams grow in confidence, as natural leaders emerge and teams work towards a common goal, typically a showstopper challenge! With a little expert guidance and the support of team-mates there is always a magical sense of achievement with positive outcomes that team members can take back to the office.”
Clare Major, from Seasoned Cookery School comments: “Since the launch of the Great Business Bake Off demand for our ‘bake-off’ team building days has been unprecedented, with teams from top UK & International businesses coming to our purpose built venue for their own ‘bake-off’ experience. This isn’t just a team ‘jolly’ but a fun experience, facilitated by experts that leaves teams with improved communication and a better understanding of the real people that they work with everyday.”
