Why celebrating apprenticeship success matters

The 15th National Apprenticeship Awards

Apprenticeships are at the heart of the government’s drive to equip people of all ages with the skills that employers need. They provide the opportunity, and the means, to help address the skills shortages reported by many industries. They also help people of all ages and backgrounds to progress in work and life.

Entries are now open for the 15th National Apprenticeship Awards – the largest and most prestigious celebration of apprenticeships across the country. There are now more opportunities than ever to undertake apprenticeships in a huge range of occupations, all the way up to degree level. The Awards reflect the quality of apprenticeships on offer across all sectors, recognising them as a fast-track to a great career and business growth.

Inspiring others

Raising awareness about the fantastic opportunities that apprenticeships offer apprentices and apprentice employers alike is hugely important. The National Apprenticeship Awards play an important role in celebrating apprenticeships success, encouraging more people to apply for apprenticeships and encouraging employers to invest more in their apprenticeships offer. They also provide a huge boost to the winners themselves, with past winners reporting a wealth of benefits including increased brand recognition and workforce morale, as well as more career opportunities for individual winners.

Apprenticeships are at the heart of the government’s drive to equip people of all ages with the skills that employers need. They provide the opportunity, and the means, to help address the skills shortages reported by many industries. They also help people of all ages and backgrounds to progress in work and life.

Last year’s finalists provide an insight into the inspiring experiences of apprentices across the country. Stories range from an 18-year-old school leaver who turned down university to start an apprenticeship – all after a chance encounter in their local corner shop – to an ex-offender whose life was transformed after his plumbing apprenticeship with a local housing provider gave him a fresh start. Celebrating the diverse achievements of apprentices helps to raise the aspirations of more young people across the country, showing them what’s possible through dedication and hard work.

New for this year

There are several new categories to make this year’s National Apprenticeship Awards the most exciting yet. The refreshed 2018 awards will showcase employer excellence in widening access to, and championing, apprenticeships as well as celebrating how apprenticeships offer a career path to the top for individuals.

New categories include the Recruitment Excellence Award, recognising employers who have attracted a diverse and high-quality apprenticeship workforce through new and innovative approaches to recruitment. In addition, the National Apprenticeship Service will identify one individual winner to receive a Recognition Award, to reward someone who has made a special contribution to the promotion and delivery of apprenticeships.

For the first time, a Rising Star category will showcase apprentices who have made impressive progress in their career to date and who show the potential, through their apprenticeship, to take a career path to the very top of their chosen profession. Nominated by their employers, at the national stage of the awards the public will be invited to vote on the overall winner for this category.

Apprentice employers and apprentices from all industries are invited to enter the awards. Judged by a team of experts, entrants have the opportunity to be crowned a regional winner at nine awards ceremonies set to take place across the country. From the regional champions, a national judging panel will select the overall National Apprenticeship Award winners, to be celebrated at a national ceremony on 28 November 2018.

Apply by 25 May for the National Apprenticeship Awards 2018.
