Get on the RoATP: Register now to deliver Apprenticeships

Time is running out to enter the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP), says funding and apprenticeships manager Jake Tween

Jake Tween, Funding and Apprenticeships manager

From May 2017, levied employers will choose their apprenticeship training providers from the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP).

If you are interested in delivering Apprenticeships when the new reforms kick in, you must submit your application to be listed on the register by 5pm on 25 November 2016 to be eligible.

If applicants fail to get on the Register, existing contracts will be honoured in most cases. However, there will be no appeals process if unsuccessful and no feedback from the SFA on why your application has been rejected.

How do I get approved?

There are three routes to approval (and you should choose one only):

  • Main Provider Route – for prime providers that deliver directly to employers
  • Supporting Provider Route – for subcontractors who deliver on behalf of main providers (the cumulative value of subcontracts must not be more than £500k)
  • Employer Provider Route – for employers that wish to deliver to their own employees (will need to register via Main Provider Route to deliver to other employers)

Criteria for entry

To be eligible to appear on the register you'll need to meet certain eligibility criteria, including that you have been trading as a business for more than three months, that you'll deliver more than 100k of apprenticeships in a year and that you've scored more than satisfactory on the Financial Health Assessment. Before you apply to the register, you must have registered with the UK Register of Learning Providers, the Information Commissioners Office for education and training and for an account on the Bravo E-Tendering portal.

Key timelines for the change:

Open for applications: Monday 24th October 2016
Applications close: 5pm, Friday 25th November 2016
SFA evaluates applications: November 2016 - February 2017
Feedback to applicants: Early March 2017
Publications of RoATP: Early March 2017
