The Non-Domestic Energy Assessor collects data on dimensions, construction, heating and hot water provision of commercial and non-commercial buildings in order to produce an EPC using the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM). The Air-Conditioning Energy Assessor undertakes mandatory inspections of all air conditioning systems with rated outputs of over 12kw at intervals not exceeding 5 years.

Essential Skills for Work and Life (Wales)

Enable learners in Wales to develop their communication, number and ICT skills through a flexible and personalised learning programme. Developed in conjunction with the Welsh Government, these qualifications complement and support progression towards the Essential Skills Wales (ESW) qualifications (3868).

Like the Essential Skills Wales qualifications, these units focus on problem solving and the application of these skills, although the crucial difference with these qualifications is they allow learners to address specific skills gaps and build confidence in the particular skills they need to improve (eg Strategies for Reading, Using Fractions, Developing and Presenting Information Using ICT), without necessarily having to evidence the whole of the standard. They also allow communication, number and ICT skills to be integrated - as they are in real life.

The UK is facing a shortage of railway engineering and operating skills to deliver the investment in renewing and improving the existing railway, together with exciting projects such as Thameslink, Crossrail 1 & 2, the Intercity Express Programme, High Speed 2 & 3 and Network Rail’s vision for the ‘Digital Railway’.

At the same time the Rail Industry is undergoing considerable technological change including the introduction of remote condition monitoring, ERTMS (European Rail Train Management System), which will impact most areas of engineering across the railway and rolling stock as well as new ways of working such as collaboration, lean methodologies and intelligent maintenance.

There is already an urgent need to recruit, train and develop 10,000 engineering workers during the next 5 years to meet the forecast workload in traction and rolling stock, train control systems, electrification and track.

These qualifications have been developed in collaboration with the industry to ensure that today's and tomorrow's workforce gain the knowledge and skills required to successfully face these challenges and achieve the target set up by the Department for Transport to have 30,000 apprentices started by 2020 in rail, road and maritime sectors.
